‘Sort of player that Spurs have been missing’ – German football expert on rumoured target

Get German Football News editor-in-chief Daniel Pinder has claimed that a midfielder like Marcel Sabitzer is exactly what Tottenham Hotspur are currently missing.

The North Londoners have been backed to make a summer approach for Sabitzer, with the midfielder set to enter into the final year of his contract with RB Leipzig at the end of the season.

Previous reports have indicated that Spurs are already laying the groundwork to pull of a potential deal for the 27-year-old in the summer while Alasdair Gold has also backed the North Londoners to make an approach for the Austrian.

Some sources previously claimed that Jose Mourinho was extremely enthusiastic at the prospect of signing Sabtizer and so it remains to be seen if Tottenham would still go for the Leipzig star with the Portuguese coach no longer at the helm.

However, Pinder certainly believes that the club should pursue Sabitzer, suggesting that the former Rapid Wien star would fit seamlessly into Tottenham’s midfield.

The journalist told Football Fancast: “I think he’d bring a lot to Tottenham. He’s very similar to Christian Eriksen, he’s that sort of player that Spurs have been missing in midfield.

“During his time at Leipzig, Sabitzer played much further forward but this season he’s played deeper, been creating from deep but with that, he’s very versatile, whether it’s central midfield, attacking midfield, winger, he’s even played striker this season, so I think for Spurs he’d be an excellent signing.

“I think he’d slot straight into that starting XI, and alongside players like Hojbjerg I think that partnership could be a decent pairing in the middle.”

I always saw a Sabitzer as a potential replacement for Dele Alli. However, with Mourinho now having departed, Alli might well end up staying at Spurs. That could mean that we end up calling off our Sabitzer pursuit.
