South American club fear ‘unrejectable’ offer from Tottenham for £87m star

Tottenham are battling another European heavyweight for a highly-rated Argentine centre-back, who is making waves in South America.

It has been widely reported that signing a top-class defender is a priority for Spurs in January, and that is understandable, given the fitness record of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Some big Premier League names, such as March Guehi, have been linked with Spurs, while some sources have mooted Jarrad Branthwaite as a target for Tottenham.

However, a new report has now claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could turn their attention to a rising star in Argentine football instead.

Tottenham are battling La Liga giants for River Plate starlet Lautaro Rivero

This report comes from El Intransigente, who explain that River Plate are going through a sticky patch at the moment.

However, the performances of defender Lautaro Rivero have been a bright spot for the Argentine club, with the centre-back’s stock ascending rapidly.

Lautaro Rivero’s displays have not gone unnoticed in Europe, with Tottenham and Atletico Madrid both eyeing moves for the 21-year-old.

The outlet asserts that River Plate are bracing for offers to arrive through the door for the young centre-back in January.

Unrejectable offer feared for Spurs target Lautaro Rivero

El Intransigente say that there is fear at the Argentine club that an ‘unrejectable’ offer could be on its way from Europe for their starlet.

The outlet explains that Rivero is contracted to his club until the end of 2028, and his current deal contains a release clause of €100m (£87.1m).

However, should a ‘significant’ offer arrive either from North London or the Spanish capital, they may be tempted to cash in on the centre-back.
