Southampton player sends message of thanks to Tottenham fans

Former Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker-Peters has thanked Spurs fans for the warm reception he received on his return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Walker-Peters came through the Spurs academy and was handed his debut by Mauricio Pochettino before completing a permanent move to the Saints in the summer of 2020 after an impressive loan spell at the St Mary’s during the second half of the 2019/20 campaign.

There were times at Spurs, particularly in the 2018/19 season, where he looked like he could be the next player from the academy to establish himself in the regular first team.

The 24-year-old did not quite manage that but he has come on leaps and bounds since his move to the South Coast and is now showing the kind of potential that made him a hot prospect at Spurs.

Walker-Peters would have enjoyed his return to N17 on Wednesday as he helped Southampton come away with a dramatic 3-2 win against his former club.

Here’s what the right-back posted on Instagram after his side’s win over Spurs:

One can make the case that Walker-Peters would be better suited to playing as a right wing-back in Conte’s system than both Emerson and Doherty.

That shows how poor Tottenham’s decisions have been over the past couple of years, both in terms of recruitment and their previous managerial appointments.
