Souza opens up on ‘childhood dream’ after move to Tottenham is finally confirmed

Since the start of the January transfer window, we knew Souza would join Tottenham but the move took its sweet time to go through.

Now, though, the young Brazilian starlet is finally a Tottenham player. He leaves behind Santos and joins the Lilywhites on a long-term deal.

The signing of Souza is likely a play for the future rather than the here and now, but it’s still an exciting addition to Thomas Frank’s squad.

Judging by the way the 19-year-old’s first words as a Tottenham player, he is just as excited to be here as we are to welcome him through the door.

What Souza has said about joining Tottenham

Speaking to the club as he posed for photos and signed his contract at Spurs, Souza outlined how he feels about the move to North London and why it’s a dream come true.

He said: “It’s an incredible feeling to join a really big club in Spurs.

“I grew up watching the Premier League so this is a childhood dream for me and I can’t wait to get going.

“This is a big step in my development. The Premier League is very different to what I’m used to in Brazil, and I’m really looking forward to this challenge and to being part of the squad here.”

How much of a role will Souza play at Spurs?

It’s hard to know just how involved Souza will be at this stage. Obviously, he’s only young and will need time to adapt to English football.

In an ideal world, the youngster would be used sparingly for the rest of the season. However, given Tottenham’s injury worries, there’s every chance he will play semi-regularly for the next few months.

Souza can’t join Tottenham’s Champions League squad yet, but we could well see him in the mix for domestic matches in the coming weeks.

With Ben Davies out injured, Frank may well be forced to use Souza as the immediate understudy for Destiny Udogie. Still, there’s no better to get used to the Premier League than to jump in at the deep end!
