Spanish media make wild claim that Tottenham are in talks with Bundesliga winner

Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly in talks with a manager who is widely considered to be one of the best in the world right now.

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Oliver Glasner and Marco Silva have been mooted as potential replacements for Thomas Frank over the last few weeks.

However, with clubs across the top five leagues making managerial changes over recent days and weeks, bigger names have suddenly become available.

It has now emerged that Tottenham Hotspur are now trying something extremely ambitious by securing the man whom Real Madrid sacked just a couple of days ago.

Tottenham begun talks with Xabi Alonso to replace Thomas Frank

In a huge twist, Fichajes are now reporting that Spurs have begun formal negotiations with Xabi Alonso after he was sacked just six months into his time at Madrid.

The report says that the Tottenham hierarchy has acted with astonishing speed after Alonso became available, as they see him as the ‘ideal figure’ to rebuild the project that seems to have collapsed under Frank.

Although the former Bayer Leverkusen boss failed to deliver a clear style of play at the Santiago Bernabeu, his ‘reputation remains undiminished’ in the eyes of the Spurs board.

Alonso’s name has generated ‘unanimous support’ among the club’s top brass, with Tottenham understanding that they need to act immediately to secure his services.

Fichajes state that Tottenham are looking for a ‘game changer’ as a manager and see Alonso as someone who would not only improve the team’s results but also ‘reignite the passion of the fan base’.

Negotiations between the two parties are said to be ‘progressing positively’, with both keen on finalising a permanent agreement.

Tottenham believes that such a move would signal their ambition and Fichajes assert that, should the talks come to fruition, an official announcement could come within days.

Whether or not any of this is true seems unlikely, although Thomas Frank will be under immense pressure to beat West Ham this weekend.
