Christian Eriksen is reported to be now considering a new four-year contract offer from Tottenham Hotspur which is worth €6million a year.

Spanish news outlet AS claim that the Dane is now re-thinking his future after Real Madrid have shelved their plans to sign the playmaker and are instead focusing on Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

Eriksen is out of contract in North London next summer and would be able to agree to a free transfer to a club outside of England from January.

He went on record last week to Danish media stating his desire to leave Tottenham in order to seek a fresh challenge after six seasons at the club (Ekstra Bladet).

The report claims that Tottenham are holding firm with their valuation of the 27-year-old which is posing to be a problem with negotiations.

Eriksen’s new contract would make him one of the highest paid players at the club on par with Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris, with only Harry Kane earning more.

Daniel Levy is refusing to allow Eriksen to leave the club next summer without signing a new deal.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. After almost a year of protracted negotiations Levy has now decided to try and keep Eriksen , offering a
significantly improved contract. Why did we not do this BEFORE last season which may have prevented the
listless and generally poor play from Eriksen which we, the fans , had to endure. Obviously Real Madrid are not in love with him, preferring the erratic Pogba instead. In addition why are we dragging our feet yet again over confirming new signings? Now we are haggling over Sessegnon who is certainly a good bet for the near future, if not now. Fernandes or Lo Celso deal still at the maybe stage. We need to close these deals quickly or risk, once again losing quality signings. We have many avenues now for significantly improving revenues so lets use our heads and be a little creative. If we overpay for these players at least we have them and are not left on the outside looking in, like so often. Levy, sign the quality and it will pay back in spades with on field performance. Please do not leave it until we have lost all the quality signings and are left with final week dross.
