Brazilian Welliton is the latest forward to be linked with Tottenham when Roman Pavlyuchenko inevitably leaves the club.

Welliton plays for Pavlyuchenko’s former club, Spartak Moscow, who are one of the teams keen on purchasing the Russian.

And reports in Russia have claimed that Welliton could be used as a makeweight in a deal to take Pavlyuchenko back to Spartak.

Pavlyuchenko has been vocal about his desire to leave Spurs in order to gain more first team football and has previously talked about a preference to return home, although a move to Roma has been mooted as well.

Welliton on the other hand has a long list of admirers throughout Europe, after bagging 21 goals this season for Spartak.

Welliton said, “Tottenham are a famous club with a good infrastructure.”

However, he also claimed that he would be happy to stay and play alongside Pavlyuchenko if things were to work out that way.

“Of course I’d be happy if we signed him. I don’t see any reason to be upset. I only have pleasant memories of playing together with him.

“We are both versatile forwards who would complement each other.”

Lokomotiv Moscow on the other hand, have rejected rumours they are close to sealing a deal for Pavlyuchenko.

Lokomotiv president, Nikolay Naumov refused to rule out a move altogether, but says their has been no contact with Spurs regarding the Russian striker.

“Our interest in Pavlyuchenko is no more than a rumour.

“Of course, we are interested in such a player, but we have not yet entered negotiations for his transfer.

“I can say that he may arrive here because as you know in football, anything is possible. But by the same token, ‘Loko’ may sign Lionel Messi.”
