‘Special’ – Alderweireld reacts to Tottenham’s start to the season and sends message to fans

Toby Alderweireld has sent a touching message to Spurs fans to mark the day he made his debut for Tottenham Hotspur seven years ago.

Alderweireld made a total of 236 appearances (Transfermarkt) for Spurs over his six-year spell at the club after arriving from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015.

The Belgian international was a crucial part of the club’s rise under Mauricio Pochettino, helping the Lilywhites to reach new heights in the Premier League and finish as the runners-up in the Champions League in 2019.

The centre-back’s time at Tottenham came to an end last summer when he completed a move to Qatari side Al-Duhail.

After just one season in the Qatar Stars League, Alderweireled has returned to his native Belgium, signing a contract with Royal Antwerp earlier this summer.

The former Tottenham man has now congratulated the Lilywhites on making a strong start to the 2022/23 season and wished Antonio Conte’s men the best for the campaign.

Here is the message he posted on Instagram:

Spurs Web Opinion

The team that we had during Pochettino’s heyday was the most likeable bunch of players that have played for Spurs since I started supporting the club. It is a shame that the likes of Toby, Jan, Mousa, Dele and could not win any trophies at the club.

However, the silver lining is the fact that the likes of Hugo, Dier, Harry, Davies and Sonny are still at the club, and let us hope this is the season that they deservedly get their hands on some silverware.
