‘Special’ – Djed Spence sends message to Spurs fans after making debut

Djed Spence has taken to social media to admit that it was a ‘special moment’ to make his senior debut for Tottenham against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Spence is the youngest and the least experienced of the six players that Spurs have signed over the summer (apart from Destiny Udogie, who was loaned back to Udinese).

The 22-year-old hit the limelight with his marauding displays from right-back during his loan spell at the City Ground last season, with the North London club agreeing on a fee of £20m including add-ons with Middlesbrough for the youngster.

Antonio Conte admitted in his press conference on Friday that Spence needs time to get used to a new style of football and adjust to the step up from the Championship to the Premier League.

However, the Spurs boss also praised the England Under-21 international’s attitude and work rate in training (Football.London).

The Italian rewarded Spence with his first Premier League appearance on Sunday, with the former Boro man replacing Rodrigo Bentancur in stoppage time as Spurs emerged 2-0 winners.

Spence has now taken to social media to thank Spurs fans for the warm welcome.

Spurs Web Opinion

I see that some Spurs fans on social media are concerned that Spence is seemingly below Emerson and Doherty in the pecking order but I fully expected that to be the case for the first few months of the season.

Given the attributes Spence possesses, I believe that the 22-year-old will establish himself as Conte’s first choice at right wing-back by the end of the season.
