‘Special for me’ – Conte comments on Christian Eriksen in Spurs press conference

Antonio Conte revealed he was happy to see Christian Eriksen back in the Denmark squad today (BBC), his first inclusion since his cardiac arrest at EURO 2020.

The Danish midfielder has now appeared three times for Brentford in the Premier League, starting the last two fixtures and already adding goal contributions.

The former Spurs star played 90 minutes against Norwich before recording his first Brentford assist against Burnley, a pin-point left-footed cross for Ivan Toney (TransferMarkt).

Eriksen not only has a history with Tottenham and the Premier League, but also with Conte himself as they worked together at Inter Milan during the historic Scudetto win last season.

In fact, Conte even hinted in a press conference this year that he would be open to an Eriksen return at Tottenham (Athletic).

The Spurs boss claimed that Eriksen is an important player and watching him back out on the pitch these past two weeks was ‘special’ for Conte.

He said (Football London): “I’m happy for Christian.

“To see him again on the pitch, to play from the start, to play two games in a row. To play well with Brentford, it was special for me.

“He is an important player but also we’re talking about a great person. He and his family deserve to live now in a normal situation.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

If Eriksen gets back to full fitness and continues to show his quality in the Premier League with Brentford, I see no reason why Spurs shouldn’t snap him up on a free at the end of the season. Tottenham lack enough of those creative players in the squad at the moment.
