Sporting director admits club could listen to £35m offer for Spurs target

Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director, Max Eberl, has admitted that the Bundesliga club will not be able to refuse a big offer for rumoured Tottenham target Jonas Hofmann this summer.

Hofmann has been a consistent performer for Gladbach over several years and had another solid campaign this time out, managing 6 goals and 11 assists in an injury-hit season.

The central midfielder was first linked with a move to Tottenham last summer and Sport 1 journalist Patrick Berger said last month that the North London club could rekindle their interest in the German international this summer.

However, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea are reportedly set to challenge Spurs for the 28-year-old’s signature.

Eberl has now explained that while Gladbach wish to hold on to Hofmann, the midfielder could leave if a big offer comes in this summer.

He told Bild (as relayed by Insidefutbol): “We live in a time when nothing can be ruled out. But we certainly don’t want to sell Jonas.

“If at some point a club says they are offering €40m (£34.43m) for Jonas, no club can say that we are not interested.”

Eberl likely used the £35m figure just to illustrate a point, with rumours indicating that Gladbach value the midfielder at around €15m (£12.8m).
