Sporting director makes admission on the future of rumoured Tottenham target

Vasco da Gama sporting director, Fabio Cordella has admitted that the Brazilian club failed to sign rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Sami Khedira as the German international conveyed his intention of continuing to play in Europe.

Khedira has been a loyal servant for Juventus over the years but he has been completely frozen out of the first-team picture with the Serie A giants since the arrival of Andrea Pirlo.

The 33-year-old’s days in Turin look numbered and he opened up on his intention to play in the Premier League in an interview with Sky Sports last month.

Football Italia previously reported that Khedira was on Tottenham’s radar but claimed that Everton was his most likely destination in January.

The German international has also admitted that he has spoken to his former Real Madrid bosses, Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti about his future (ZDF as translated by TBR Football).

Cordella has now confirmed that the Juve star intends to continue his football in Europe rather than having an adventure in South America, the MLS or Asia.

The Vasco da Gama sporting director told CalcioMercato: “I tried for Mandzukic. I won’t hide it, but he wants to play in Europe. Same goes for Khedira.”
