Spurs academy graduate reacts to making Premier League squad debut

Marcel Lavinier has revealed it was a ‘good experience’ to be a part of his first Premier League matchday squad today, despite the disappointing Tottenham result.

With Matt Doherty picking up an injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season, Emerson Royal has become the only senior right-back in Tottenham.

As such, Marcel Lavinier has been promoted to second-choice it seems, with the 21-year-old academy graduate on the bench for today’s defeat against Brighton.

While the youngster was not used, it was a big step for him to be included in his very first Premier League matchday squad.

The right-back has tasted senior Spurs action already, having played 16 minutes against Wolfsberger in the Europa League last season (TransferMarkt).

Taking to Twitter after the match today, Lavinier revealed it was a good experience for him to be around the senior squad, even if he was gutted with the three points dropped.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I would love to see Lavinier get some minutes this season, although I suspect that would only ever happen if Emerson picked up an injury. Conte isn’t the type to throw a youngster in at the deep end when times are tough.
