Spurs ready to pull the plug on Ade

Tottenham’s pursuit of Emmanuel Adebayor may soon be coming to an end as the club are preparing to end negotiations over the deal and make a fresh bid for Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao, according to the Sun.

The newspaper have reported that Tottenham are growing increasingly frustrated and inpatient at Adebayor’s demand to receive the £4m transfer fee agreed with parent club Manchester City and may soon change direction and open negotiations with Internacional for Brazilian Olympic star Damiao.

Adebayor scored 17 goals for Tottenham while on loan at the White Hart Lane last season and a fee had been agreed with City for the permanent transfer of the player a number of weeks ago. Since then however, talks have stalled over the striker’s demands and Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy may soon scrap the deal in favour of perusing Damiao, who the club have been linked with for the past two seasons.

This information has not been verified by any figure at Spurs so it should be taken with a pinch of salt until something more concrete is unveiled. However, if true the news would come as a big disappointment as Adebayor quickly established himself as a fans favourite last season with his impressive goal tally and had developed a particularly effective relationship with winger Gareth Bale.

  1. ADe is a nob and if we sign him I'll give it until Christmas before he and AVB have a falling out. What's worrying is it seems obvious to me that we need more than just the one striker. We buy Damiao and he gets injured; then what?

  2. I am a Spurs fan, have been since I was 5 years old, back in 1991 when I watched the FA Cup final victory and I turned to my Dad (Leeds Fan) and I said "that's my team". Albeit from a glory supporting beginning, the years since have been desperately mediocre. We once nearly got relegated but survived and we never really challenged for anything other than the League Cup…until Redknapp. The game is first and foremost about glory – i've always loved that mantra and you would have to, to be a Spurs fan. We are a romantic team, in the same ilk as Real Madrid, we would rather lose beautifully than win ugly. Not all teams live by such ethos, but we do. So i implore all and any Spurs fan who turn on any 'Spur, be it management or playing, to remember that you once cried their name in the stands, you once defended them bitterly at the pub bar and you were once proud to call them a part of your club. You lose all credibility when you reduce yourself to ridicule and hypocrisy and there is no glory in that. To Redknapp, thanks for the memories. To Modric, thanks for the play. Finally, to Levy; spare no cost to go and get our next glorious romance…LEANDRO DAMIAO!!! COYS!!!
