Spurs and Arsenal said to be ready to battle for in-form winger

Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle North London rivals Arsenal for the signature of Nicolas Pépé.

According to The Times, the Lille winger has caught the eye of the Premier League pair after an impressive start to the season. Pépé already has scored eight goals and set up a further five within the first thirteen matches in Ligue 1.

He managed to score thirteen goals last season and is already well ahead of his target to better his tally at the end of the current campaign.

The 23-year-old is valued at around £23million by the French club who currently sit in second place in their domestic league behind free-spending PSG.

The Sun report that Pépé has previously been the subject of interest from the Premier League with Southampton having had a £12.5million bid rejected during the summer transfer window.

Tottenham place such a high goalscoring burden on star striker Harry Kane but have failed to find someone who can help with putting the ball in the back of the net.

Fernando Llorente, Vincent Janssen and Roberto Soldado have all failed, while some Spurs fans will be skeptical about another French league signing having seen Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Clinton N’Jie both fail at the club.
