Journalist Kevin Palmer has reported Tottenham and Manchester United are currently unable to resolve an agreement for the transfer of Toby Alderweireld.

He believes both sides are making offers which neither side can agree on.

Spurs have reportedly set a price tag of around £60m for the 29-year-old or alternatively Anthony Martial as part of a swap deal.

However, reports suggest the Red Devils are only willing to pay up to £45m for the defender and Jose Mourinho is determined not to allow Martial leave for a rival club.

With the two sides unwilling to concede defeat, this transfer saga has the sense of one which will go right down to the very last minute.

Spurs do not appear to have any obvious replacement lined up, with Jack Grealish their only current transfer target close to signing a deal with the north London club.

Therefore, should the Belgian defender leave in the last few hours of the window Spurs could be forced into the new season with only two senior centre-backs.

As always, Spurs fans leave your thoughts below.

  1. Spurs should not budge on the Martial swap. If Jose is unwilling to sell to a rival club why should we sell our best CB him I.e. to one of our main CL rivals

  2. Spot on Joe, keep playing hardball with the frozen one. I believe Toby is being very greedy so get rid of him, people who pay his wages, the real fans are not getting anything earning what he is demanding. 4 ordinary fans would only get his weekly wage over a year between them.

  3. Man United can move. They can afford to lose Martial. We can’t afford to lose Toby on the cheap. Anyway I happen to think PSG will come for Toby after the window and we need to buy deligt.

  4. We need de Ligt now then sell Toby abroad after window. We must not be bullied by Utd, if they want then it is large sum +Martial or no deal.

  5. Just get rid of him don’t want a player like that at our club the sky is the limit cups leagues etc but yet he wants more money we know where his loyalty lays, in his pocket
