Spurs are now in a ‘very good position’ to land James Maddison – Journalist reports

Journalist Dean Jones believes that Tottenham Hotspur are in a very good position to win the race for James Maddison’s signature should they wish to do so.

Over the last couple of days, there have been plenty of positive updates about Spurs’ pursuit of Maddison.

Contrary to suggestions that Newcastle are leading the race for the attacking midfielder’s signature (Sky Sports), it was reported by journalist Alex Crook on talkSPORT Breakfast (14/06 at 9:50 am) that Tottenham are at the front of the queue for the attacking midfielder.

Crook explained that much to Newcastle’s surprise, Maddison prefers a move to the North London club even though the Magpies can offer him Champions League football.

Fabrizio Romano then took to social media on Thursday evening to reveal that Spurs are in talks with the entourages of Maddison and his Leicester teammate Harvey Barnes.

Tottenham are well-placed to win Maddison race

Jones has now explained that the intermediaries working on the 26-year-old’s sale have a very good relationship with Tottenham, which is why the Lilywhites are well-poised to win the race for the player.

The journalist said on The Done Deal Show: “Tottenham have been interested in James Maddison for a long time as we know.

“They have their new manager in place now and he’s very much on board with the addition of James Maddison.

“My understanding of it is that the people being used for the deal have good connections with Tottenham. That’s been backed up by a couple of people I’ve spoken to in the past week and they feel that Tottenham are in a very good position to get this done at £55m or £60m if they want to do it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham can somehow get the James Maddison and David Raya deals over the line over the coming weeks, that would represent an outstanding start to the transfer window.

Signing top, homegrown players to fill two priorities positions before flying out on our pre-season trip to Asia and Australia, would certainly be of great help to Postecoglou.
