What is the National League Cup?

Tottenham are one of eight Premier League clubs whose Under-21 side will compete in the tournament, which has reportedly been designed to provide youngsters the chance to compete against senior pros from the EFL.

Tottenham’s Under-21 side will thus be competing against various senior EFL and non-league sides as they aim to progress from the group stage into the knockouts over the next few months.

The competition involves 32 teams in total, who are divided into four groups of eight teams each, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the quarterfinal.

When does the National League Cup start?

While the group stage games will begin at the start of October, the knockout stage will start in February, with the final set to take place at the beginning of April.

Tottenham have been drawn in Group D alongside Nottingham Forest, Braintree Town, Dagenham & Redbridge, West Brom, Ebbsfleet United, West Ham United and Sutton United.

The competition will be seen as a good chance for the next generation of Tottenham talent to test themselves in the senior professional game.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is a great initiative as these young players will learn a lot more when coming up against senior players than they would in youth football.

This competition offers a chance for youngsters to have a taste of senior football without going out on loan.
