Tottenham Hotspur were present at a Champions League match on Wednesday to watch a highly-rated midfielder they could consider making a move for in January.

A player who could improve Tottenham’s midfield

Tottenham have a number of midfielders in their team, but with Ange Postecoglou favouring a 4-3-3 formation with two attacking-minded players in the centre of the pitch, there is still space for someone who favours that position in Tottenham’s first-team squad, with the Lilywhites looking to improve the depth in their ranks.

One man who could provide that and even attempt to break into the starting lineup is 22-year-old, Georgiy Sudakov, who was part of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Ukrainian Premier League winning team last season.

Sudakov can be a threat going forward and he has eight goals and three assists in all competitions so far this season. He is a versatile player, able to fulfil both the central and attacking midfield roles and play out wide, and he has compared his style of play to James Maddison and Phil Foden (The Telegraph).

Spurs are interested in Georgiy Sudakov

According to TBR Football, Tottenham scouts were at Shakhtar Donetsk’s midweek clash with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League to watch Sudakov.

The Ukrainian international is reportedly ready to leave Shakhtar and they are not opposed to selling him, with Sudakov currently valued at £50m.

But Spurs face competition from their Premier League rivals, as Liverpool also attended the European fixture, while Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have all made enquiries about Sudakov in the past 18 months.

Georgiy Sudakov would be a strong signing for Spurs

When the best teams in England are lining up to show their interest in a player, that is usually a good indication that the player possesses a fair amount of quality.

The Ukrainian Premier League is not of the highest standard, but Sudakov’s stats are positive and he is a dynamic player who would fit nicely into Ange Postecoglou’s system, while providing some healthy competition in the midfield. He would be a decent addition to Tottenham’s squad.
