Spurs vs Arsenal in Race to Sign Premier League Title Winner

With the Summer transfer window looming large, the rumour mill has started churning up headlines once more. Given the apparent rebuilding jobs required at rival clubs such as; Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City, the next next transfer window is set-up to be the most interesting and hard-fought Summer in recent times.

This morning, a number of football news outlets and blogs have reported the same story; that Tottenham have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Algerian attacking midfielder, Riyad Mahrez. Last season, Mahrez took the Premier League by storm, alongside team-mate Jamie Vardy, in their bid to win the title in an astonishing campaign which saw them defy 5000-1 odds to succeed. In doing so, Mahrez chipped in with 17 goals and 11 assists, while also claiming the 2015/16 PFA Player of the Year Award.

This news triggered a strong response on social media from Spurs fans, most of which in support of the prospective transfer. It is hard to imagine that in December Riyad Mahrez was an enemy of the Lane following comments about Tottenham’s title challenge collapse. In an interview with FourFourTwo he stated that the Spurs capitulation at Stamford Bridge was ‘The funniest moment’ of the entire 2015/16 season. However, should the winger follow in Vardy’s footsteps and reject Arsenal only to join Tottenham, I’m sure all would be forgiven and forgotten.

A report from The Telegraph claim that Riyad Mahrez would cost Spurs no less than £30 million. Do you think this is a good move? Or could we do better?
