Spurs battle West Ham for Aston Villa star

According to the Express Spurs and London rivals West Ham are looking to sign Aston Villa youngster Jack Grealish.

The article says the Hammers have held preliminary talks with Villa but have been initially put off by the £40million price-tag adding that Tottenham are keen but they are miles apart in terms of valuation with Villa, who lost in the Championship play-off final, are looking for.

The article goes on to say both clubs are watching the situation closely and they will reopen talks with Villa if they drop their lofty demands.

The Villains Chinese owner Tony Xia has sanctioned the sale of 22-year-old Grealish to balance the books at Villa Park after Villa were beaten 1-0 by Fulham last weekend and Xia is looking at his options with Villa going into the last year of their parachute payments, following their relegation from the top flight two years ago.

The article goes on to say that the sale of former England Under-21 international Grealish would boost the Villa’s finances but hinder their hopes of promotion next season.
Grealish has two years left on his current deal at the club.
