Spurs beaten in race for France forward

Borussia Monchengladbach have beaten Tottenham in the  race to sign Nice striker Alassane Plea.

The 25-year-old, who had also been linked with Newcastle, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Foals.

Plea scored 44 goals and provided 23 assists in 135 games during his four years at Nice.

Gladbach’s sporting director Max Eberl said on his club’s website: “We’re extremely glad that this transfer has gone through and we were able to sign Alassane despite a lot of competition from various other well-known clubs.

He added:”Thankfully for us, he wanted to come to Borussia at all costs. He’s a versatile, quick and clever forward who has put his talent on full display in Ligue 1 and the Europa League.”

Mauricio Pochettino has been on the look out for an able deputy for Harry Kane with Vincent Janssen likely to stay on loan in Turkey and Fernando Llorente likely on his way out of Hotspur Way.
