Spurs boss Redknapp defends Bale

Gareth Bale

Harry Redknapp has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur cannot expect a matchwinning performance from Gareth Bale every week.

Redknapp was speaking after Tottenham’s awful 4-2 defeat at Bolton Wanderers – let’s face it, Harry got the team selection and formation wrong today.

Redknapp said: “There was nothing wrong with Gareth today. He was probably my best player.

“He had some fantastic runs and crossed a couple of great balls. If people had got on the end of them he could have made two or three goals.

“I do not expect the kid to keep doing miracles. He will have good days, bad days. He is a young lad, a left winger. He has been fantastic for us and is improving.

“He will be marked very tight and people will make it very difficult for him. They are not going to stand off him and let him do what he wants to do. That is what he has to cope with.”

  1. Bale was solid again, but the formation and the personnel that we had today didn't help or were completely ineffective.

Too many player from Tuesday played and I along with the masses can't understand why Pavlyuchenko didn't start. Trying to play knock down football is silly against Bolton. They are a rough and tumble side who are excellent in the air. Bentley came on and did well, Kranjcar was non-existent, which is really alarming. Spurs played much better with Bentley out wide. Shame 'Arry didn't focus on Robinson because he is a slow lumbering fullback. We just looked lethargic, the midfield that is and the defence were constantly pressured. I would've started Jenas alongside Palacios instead of Sandro. He is just getting his feet set in the Premiership and was exposed many times by Bolton.

We made an average Bolton side look good, not discounting Bolton's performance but we were poor. I sincerely knew this would happen and we played like we expected a poor outing. Poor team selection and a crappy performance done us in. Now we have another weekend match Tuesday. Why are they scheduling midweek matches already this season?

Overall we got what we deserved, the defence got no support from the midfield and the forwards couldn't hold the ball long enough for support. Bale as you would expect was good and doubled team, this is something we need to utitlise to our benefit as they does leave space available for others to work in.

Shit start to my weekend here in California.

  2. Oh yes! Redknap got the team selection wrong…BIG TIME! What an idiot! Bale did fine today. The Beanpole didn’t. Wonder what Arry sees in him. Oii Arry! stats don’t lie. Pav is miles better then the Beanpole. In recent matches, with lesser playing minutes as compared to the Beanpole, Pav got more shots at goal. In fact, scores more than the f***ing bean pole. I can tell you now, 90% of the squad members would prefer Pav to start ahead of that helpless B.pole anytime! Oii Arry! wake-up!!

  4. marinizcy He doesn’t start because he never holds the ball up, is very lazy, gives away good possession with slack passes or poor control that often lead to counters or even goals (young boys was a perfect example of this), can’t head, is too weak. Apart from the odd blinder of a goal he contributes fuck all and is more often than not a liability. Do you actually watch games or just see goal highlights?

  5. Stop calling crouch the problem was we had no play maker Sandro Palacios How many players where in the box when Bale in the first half three Bolton and one Spurs player when Van was ijured and Lennon we should have played 424 like Bolton the offside goal killed a five man midfield. We dont function without Huddlestone the states tell the story. We have a strong Squad who have one foot out the door Kranjcar not played for five weeks Palacios Sandro three players who had not played hardly against a energised team.
