Spurs’ Brennan Johnson is now leading the Premier League charts in key stat this season

Brennan Johnson now has more goal contributions as a substitute than any other player in the Premier League this season.

Johnson did not have the smoothest of starts to his Tottenham career after his big-money move from Nottingham Forest last summer and came in for quite a bit of criticism during the first half of the campaign.

In fact, several pundits even questioned the 22-year-old’s usefulness, arguing that he was not good enough for a side with Champions League ambitions (talkSPORT).

However, Johnson has well and truly silenced his critics over the last couple of months, impressing as a starter as well as an impact substitute.

Brennan Johnson is Tottenham’s super-sub again

The pacy winger has made a telling contribution after coming on from the bench time and again, and he did the same in Tottenham’s clash against Luton Town on Saturday.

The Wales international, who replaced Dejan Kulusevski at half-time, had a hand in both of the home side’s goals, with his cross being turned into his own net by Issa Kabore 56 minutes before the wide-man set-up Son Heung-min’s winner with an intelligent pass to the South Korean.

According to Premier League USA, Johnson has now played a part in six goals off the bench, which is the most of any player in the division.

While Johnson might not have the flashy stepovers or skills that other wingers possess, he must be a nightmare to play against. The 22-year-old never stops pressing off the ball, constantly chasing down lost causes, and is so direct whenever he gets the ball.
