Spurs’ Champions League hero set to leave the club this summer

Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the semi final of the Champions League on Wednesday evening following a dramatic encounter against Manchester City.

In a match which had everything from plenty of goals to nerve-wracking VAR decisions, it was Fernando Llorente’s second half goal which proved to be vital in ensuring that Spurs’ European journey continued.

The Spaniard came off the bench late in the first half in place of the injured Moussa Sissoko to net his second crucial Champions League goal, after also scoring against Borussia Dortmund in February.

Llorente is out of contract in North London at the end of the season with the Daily Mail reporting that Spurs will not offer him a new deal.

Former club Athletic Bilbao have been heavily linked as a possible destination for the 34-year-old with the striker having already spoken about his desire to return to play in La Liga.

He told the Independent in November: “I’ve been away from home for many years,”

“I’d love to go back to La Liga.”

Instead, Mauricio Pochettino will look to recruit a younger striker who can become Harry Kane’s back-up.
