Spurs close to highly rated Stevenage youngster

Acccording to The Daily Mirror Tottenham are confident of winning the Premier League scrap for Stevenage starlet Ben Wilmot.

Wilmot is a highly rated young talent, however he only made his league debut for the Boro on Saturday where he played the full 90 minutes against Morecambe having spent the previous 10 games being an unused substitute in the league this season.

The article says the Rookie defender Wilmot, 18, is heading to the top-flight in a £850,000 deal this month.

It goes on to say Spurs’ fellow Premier League clubs Liverpool, Leicester, Brighton and Southampton are all also in the hunt for Wilmot, who was given his big break by boss Darren Sarll at the League Two club this season.

It adds that Stevenage could also be raided for highly-rated teenage striker Mark McKee before the month is out with Sarll adding: “Part of my job is to produce players for the club to be financially compensated for in whatever way.”

Not the “marquee” signing many would hope for but a clear nod to the future and perhaps he will be loaned back to ‘Boro, something similar to what was done with Dele, for the remainder of the season.
