Spurs confirm 21-year-old has signed new contract

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Alfie Whiteman has signed a new contract with the club.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper has put pen to paper on a new deal which will keep him in North London until 2022.

Whiteman, who has come through the academy ranks at Tottenham is yet to appear for the first team but has found himself involved with the squad this season.

With club captain Hugo Lloris having sustained a dislocated elbow during the 3-0 defeat at Brighton at the start of October, Paulo Gazzaniga has moved up to first choice with Whiteman along with fellow academy product Brandon Austin providing cover.

Whiteman has found himself on the bench for four of Tottenham’s Premier League matches this season as well as the 4-2 win against Olympiacos in the Champions League.

Michel Vorm’s calf injury has also allowed Austin and Whiteman to continue their involvement while the Dutchman recovers from the problem which he picked up in training (Spurs official).
