Spurs confirm another pre-season match a week before new season begins

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that there will be another addition to the club’s pre-season fixture calendar, with the first-team set to take on Watford on September 5.

Due to the unprecedented circumstances that delayed the finish to the 2019/20 season, players have had an extremely short off-season break this time out.

Spurs’ first-team stars returned to training at Hotspur Way earier this week and will be taking to the field in a friendly match against League One Ipswich Town tomorrow afternoon.

That was the first of three pre-season fixtures that were initially announced, with the Lilywhites also taking on Championship sides Reading and Birmingham City on 28 and 29 August respectively.

It looked as if Jose Mourinho’s men were set to have two weeks after those friendlies to prepare for their first game of the season against Everton on September 12.

However, Spurs have now confirmed that they will be travelling to Vicarage Road for the final pre-season game, a week before their first game against the Toffees.

Spurs Web Opinion

The pre-season games should give us a clue on how Jose and his coaching staff want the side to evolve tactically this season, if at all. I suspect that Jose’s main intention is to play Lo Celso has one of the two pivots and I am interested to see how a pairing of him and Hojbjerg would work together.
