Spurs confirm defender has signed pro deal just a day after his birthday

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Alfie Dorrington has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The central defender turned 17 on Wednesday and has been rewarded with a new deal having gone full-time within the academy ranks as a scholar last summer having originally walked through the doors of the club’s youth system as a thirteen-year-old.

Dorrington follows in the footsteps of fellow defender Charlie Sayers who also signed his first pro deal at the end of last month, following an impressive start to life in north London having joined from Southend United in December.

The England Under-17 international had been spotted in training with Antonio Conte’s first-team along with fellow academy players Max McKnight and Thomas Bloxham ahead of their Premier League clash against Southampton in February (Spurs YouTube).

It is great to see Spurs rewarding some of the brightest talents in the academy with the opportunity to turn professional.

They need to look no further than Oliver Skipp as a source of inspiration for a player who has come through the ranks at a young age to become a vital part of Conte’s plans and has been rightly rewarded with a new deal.
