Spurs confirm defender joins on loan

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona.

The France international joined Barca from Sevilla in a £31.7m deal in 2018 (Sky Sports) and despite making 158 appearances in all competitions (transfermarkt), has slipped down the pecking order in recent times.

The 27-year-old will provide extra competition on the left side of Conte’s central defensive options where he will battle with Ben Davies for a starting place.

Lenglet becomes Tottenham’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison as he looks to strengthen his side ahead of a Champions League campaign.

The speed which Tottenham have been moving in the transfer market is remarkable and unprecedented.

Never has there been a time in recent memory where the club have done so much business earlt in the window, which can only be of benefit to Antonio Conte where he will get to take many of his new arrivals as part of the trip to South Korea to give them ample time to adjust to his demands ahead of the new season.
