Spurs confirm injury blow ahead of Saints tie

Tottenham have confirmed that Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela are both unavailable to take the field against Southampton for the FA Cup fourth round replay this evening.

While Lo Celso misses out with a thigh injury, Lamela is out action with a groin problem.

This comes as a blow to Tottenham given that Lo Celso was just starting to come into his own over the last few weeks.

The Argentine, who initially struggled to make an impression following his arrival from Real Betis, is arguably one of the first names on the teamsheet on the back of his recent form.

Spurs fans will certainly be hoping that it isn’t a serious problem and that he is back in action soon.

Lamela meanwhile has also made a couple of starts and completed a few cameos since return from injury. Given that the likes of Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko are already unavailable, this is not welcome news for Jose Mourinho.

Let’s hope the decision to leave both players out is precautionary more than anything. Given that we have an extended break after this game, it should give them sufficient time to recover. The last thing we need at the moment is to lose Lo Celso for an extended period of time.
