Spurs confirm midfield pair have signed new contracts to remain at club

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that the midfield pair of Matthew Craig and Nile John have both signed new contracts with the club.

The duo had both been offered new professional deals by the North Londoners and have now decided to put pen to paper to commit their futures to the Premier League club (Football.London).

Craig was handed his Premier League debut by interim head coach Ryan Mason on the final day of the season when he came on for the final 13 minutes of the 4-1 victory at Elland Road and the 20-year-old has now signed a three-year deal.

He spoke of his delight to the club’s official site after his appearance at Elland Road:

“I’m really proud for myself and everyone who has been involved in the journey along the way.

“As a young boy, everyone dreams of making their Premier League debut some day and I’m lucky enough to do it.

“Every day that you’re in the building, it’s just working towards getting over into the first team and I think I’ve tried to do that as much as possible this year, and also in the past as well. On a personal note, I’m happy because it feels like the culmination of everything you do every day. George [Abbott] has worked really hard this year as well and I’m pleased for him too.”

Matthew Craig and Nile John sign new Spurs deals

John’s deal will run until the summer of 2025 with the also 20-year-old having made his senior debut when he came on in the 4-0 Europa League win over Wolfsberger AC back in February, 2021.

John had a disastrous loan spell at Charlton Athletic in January of last year when he failed to play a single minute of first-team football for the League One outfit when the aim was for him to further his footballing experience at senior level (transfermarkt).

Frustratingly, it is a shame that Tottenham failed to qualify for the Europa Conference League when it would have been an ideal opportunity to hand the likes of Craig and John further minutes during the early stages of the competition.

After his previous stint at Charlton, it would make sense for Spurs to allow John to head out on loan again this season at a club that can guarantee him a fair share of first-team football. Craig, who is highly regarded will certainly want to have the opportunity to impress Ange Postecoglou during the club’s pre-season fixtures.
