Spurs confirm player has signed new deal until 2023

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Juan Foyth has signed a contract extension with the club and has joined La Liga outfit Villareal on a season-long loan deal.

Foyth looked like he was making some real strides towards the end of the 2018/19 season and did not look far away from being a first-team regular.

Following his impressive showing in 2019 Copa America for Argentina, it was expected that the defender could have a big season on his return to Spurs (Evening Standard).

However, an injury at the start of last season killed the momentum he had (transfermarkt), with Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking a few months later serving as a blow to his chances of establishing himself in the side.

The 22-year-old has hardly had a look-in since Jose Mourinho arrived at Spurs and unsurprisingly has failed to make the matchday squad in any of the team’s opening seven games this season (transfermarkt).

The defender has now extended his contract in North London until 2023 and will be hoping to get his career back on track at Villareal this season.

This is a great move for all parties involved as it is clear that Foyth has an abundance of talent. He has the skill set to thrive in La Liga and hopefully, he comes back to Spurs next season with much more confidence.
