Spurs confirm player will miss remainder of the season after undergoing surgery

Tottenham Hotspur have revealed that defender Japhet Tanganga has undergone surgery on his right knee and has been ruled out for the remainder of the current season.

The 22-year-old has been out of action since the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League in mid January and is expected to return in time for pre-season following a period of rehabilitation (transfermarkt).

The England Under-21 international began the season in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven, putting in a particularly impressive performance in the 1-0 win against Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the opening weekend of the new campaign.

A statement on the official Spurs site read: “Japhet Tanganga has undergone surgery on his right knee and will be out for the remainder of the season.

“The England Under-21 international will undergo a period of recovery and is expected to return to training during the pre-season period.”

Hopefully, Tanganga can come back refreshed and look to show some of the promise he has displayed against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, frustratingly some mistakes have crept into his game notably against Chelsea prior to his injury.

Securing a place in Antonio Conte’s side may be an uphill challenge for Tanganga with Eric Dier and Cristian Romero looking solid in the middle of defence, while there is a requirement for a left-footed central defender in the summer.
