Spurs confirm season-long loan deal exit for midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has completed a loan move to Villarreal for the remainder of the season, the club have announced.

Lo Celso has previous experience of playing in La Liga, having made 45 appearances for Real Betis (transfermarkt) before initially joining Spurs on loan for a fee of around £15million with the North Londoners going on to make the move permanent in January 2020 for a further £27.3million (Evening Standard).

The 25-year-old has struggled for game time this season making just nine appearances in the top flight, with Antonio Conte leaving him out of the squad for the recent Premier League defeat at Chelsea (transfermarkt).

The Argentine international was reported to have rejected the opportunity to join Ligue 1 outfit Lyon on loan earlier this week (Loic Tanzi).

Tottenham were said to have made it clear that they were keen to offload the former PSG player during the current window (The Sun).

Lo Celso will link up with former Tottenham defender Juan Foyth at the Yellow Submarine.

Lo Celso has failed to live up to the billing at Tottenham, having seen his stint in England hampered by injury and often reserved his best performances for Argentina while offering very little on a consistent basis for his club side.
