Spurs confirm starlet has been recalled from loan – Move to higher division expected

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the club has recalled Jamie Bowden from his loan spell at Oldham Athletic.

Bowden initially joined Oldham on a season-long loan deal in the summer and the midfielder made 25 appearances across all competitions for the League Two club.

The highlight of his spell at Boundary Park came in November when he scored from 25-yards against Exeter City.

Although it has proven to be a disappointing season for the Latics so far, who are sitting at the bottom of the table, the Spurs academy starlet has stood out with his composed and energetic displays in the middle of the park.

Tottenham have now activated an option to cut short Bowden’s loan spell at Oldham prematurely.

The League Two club have revealed on their official website that the youngster is expected to be loaned back out to a team in a higher division for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

Spurs might have potentially allowed Bowden to finish the season at Oldham if the Latics were not struggling as badly as they are. Playing in that environment can negatively affect the youngster’s development.

If Tottenham do manage to loan the youngster out to a League One club for the second half of the season, it will be interesting to see how the 20-year-old gets on at that level.
