Spurs confirm the reason why Alderweireld and Aurier are missing against Villa

Tottenham Hotspur have clarified the reason why Toby Alderweireld and Serge Aurier have both been left out of the squad to face Aston Villa this evening.

Both players made the trip for the Europa League round of 16 second leg defeat against Dinamo Zagreb and were nowhere to be seen when the squad for the clash at Villa Park was announced earlier.

It has been confirmed that both defenders are sidelined due to unspecified respective illnesses. However, there was no explanation for the absences of Harry Winks and Matt Doherty which presumably means that they have been dropped for the Premier League encounter.

Tottenham are looking to bounce back from one of their worst weeks in recent history having also suffered defeat in the North London derby last weekend.

Nothing less than a victory will do for Jose Mourinho this evening as they look to close the gap on the top four and keep their slim hopes of Champions League qualification alive.
