Spurs confirm they have sent player home from pre-season tour of the Far East

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Hugo Lloris has flown home to London, ending his pre-season tour.

Lloris was part of the travelling first team squad party for the trip to the Far East which faced Juventus yesterday in Singapore.

The French international missed training on Friday after suffering from tonsillitis and was also absent from the 3-2 win against the Italian giants.

Rather than travelling for the next leg of the tour to Shanghai, where Mauricio Pochettino’s side will face Manchester United on Thursday a decision has been made to send Lloris home to recuperate from the illness.

Spurs said in a statement that they expect the club captain to return to training with the first team squad upon their return to the UK.

Lloris’ absence will give his understudy Paulo Gazzaniga the opportunity for more game time against United along with a possible appearance by the club’s third choice keeper, Alfie Whiteman.

A statement on the official Spurs site read: “Hugo Lloris has today (Monday) returned to London from Singapore to continue his recovery from tonsillitis.

Our Club captain missed the 3-2 win against Juventus at the Singapore National Stadium on Sunday having been suffering with illness since Friday.

The France goalkeeper is expected to return to training with the first team squad following our pre-season tour of Asia, which concludes against Manchester United in Shanghai on Thursday.”
