Spurs could miss out on Carabao Cup next season

Spurs could miss out on the Carabao Cup next season with the possibility of the League Cup played without the top seven in the Premier League, according to The Times.

UEFA confirmed this week that the Champions League and Europa League schedules will take place in August, with English leagues starting a month later next season. (BBC)

This is likely to cause a fixture pile-up, anything like we have seen before, with potential European games clashing with the League Cup fixtures.

The Times claim that a fixture pile-up among teams in the European competitions could result in the Premier League’s top seven excluded from the League Cup next season.

However, the report also suggests that a final decision has yet to be made but there is a real possibility of the top seven Premier League teams being left out of the domestic competition.

It also suggests a few alternatives, including the competition not being held next season or the academy squads being allowed to play.

Next season looks set to be busy. The Premier League is likely to start later than usual and that will cause games to be played throughout the week. Also, European competitions are still planned to finish their group stage by December. Overall, the Carabao Cup could add unwanted tiredness to our players and would prefer to focus on the league or Europe.
