Emerson Royal has admitted that he dreams of playing for Brazilian giants Flamengo one day in the future.

Emerson has had a tough first season in the Premier League since his move to Barcelona last summer in what has been a topsy-turvy season for Tottenham.

Since the arrival of Antonio Conte to Spurs in November, the 23-year-old has struggled to adapt to the demands of the right wing-back role and even lost his place in the starting eleven to Matt Doherty a couple of months ago until the Irishman’s injury.

Over the last few weeks, Emerson has shown signs of adapting to the intensity of the Premier League and the demands of the wing-back role, with the Brazilian putting in arguably his best performance of the season in Spurs’ 1-1 draw at Anfield last week and followed it up with a solid display against Arsenal.

However, it remains to be seen if that will be enough to save his Tottenham career, with reports indicating that Conte has given the green light for the former Real Betis man to be sold as he plans on signing a new right wing-back (The Sun).

Emerson has now been speaking to the Brazilian media about his desire to play in his home country one day.

The Spurs star told Coluna do Fla: “Who wouldn’t play for Flamengo? My dream is to play for Flamengo one day. It is the only club in Brazil today that comes close to the level of Premier League clubs.”

There is no doubt that one of either Emerson or Doherty will be sold this summer, with Conte likely to bring in a new right wing-back.

Doherty has demonstrated that he is a much better fit for the right wing-back role than the Brazilian but Emerson has age on his side.

Tottenham’s decision on who to sell might ultimately come down to who among the two attract better offers this summer.
