Spurs defender describes Pochettino as an important person in his career

Davinson Sanchez has praised former manager Mauricio Pochettino as an important part of his career after bringing him to North London.

The central defender became Tottenham’s record signing in the summer of 2017 when he departed Dutch giants Ajax for an initial fee of £36.6m which could rise to £38.4m depending on appearances and performance-related targets (ESPN).

He became the fourth former Ajax player to join the Spurs ranks under the Argentine following in the footsteps of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen.

The 23-year-old has revealed in an Instagram live Q&A with Blog Verdolaga about how Pochettino provided him with the motivation to be a success at Tottenham when he claimed that his footballing ability had earned him the right to join the Premier League side.

Sanchez has made 22 Premier League appearances for Tottenham this season and remains under contract until 2024 having penned a contract extension in May 2018 (transfermarkt).

He said as transcribed by Golombianos and translated by SportWitness: “He’s a very important person in my career, because he’s the one who brought me,”

“‘It depends on you’, he said when I arrived and that reinforces everything I had. He also told me that nobody had given me anything, that it was because of my abilities that I was there.”
