Spurs defender making up for lost time during lockdown

With still no confirmation on when the Premier League season is going to resume, it will be next month at the very earliest when players could possibly return to training at Hotspur Way.

Football.London previously revealed that the Tottenham players are using the lockdown to focus on strength and conditioning work with fitness sessions being held from the comfort of their own home online over Zoom and other video conferencing platforms.

With players having been used to training and playing games regularly, staying indoors can get be challenging for some. However, Davinson Sanchez isn’t one to complain.

The centre back revealed that he is enjoying spending time at home for a change and is enjoying some quality time with his spouse.

When asked about how he is spending the lockdown, the Colombian told the club’s official website: “I’m enjoying with my wife the time that I could not be with her before.

“I try to do things that I did not do previously like being in the kitchen and fixing the house.

“It can be difficult for many to spend so much time in the same space sharing everything but, for us, it’s nice to be able to be together for so long.

“I think it is a good way to strengthen ourselves as a family, to be able to live through this difficult time with a good spirit and optimism – that is what will help us to live happily at this time.

“TV helps, board games as well. All of these things add up to help us cope during this time.”

The 23-year-old also revealed that he is staying in regular touch with his family back home and is using the time to forge stronger relationships.

He added: “They are at home like we are in the UK. It’s still a little different than how we live here, but they are taking all the precautions for safety.

“At this moment, the only thing we can do is to become strong as a family – both here and in Colombia – and be patient. There is nothing better than being together as a family and we can all look forward to that again soon.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Footballers are lucky in the fact that they have facilities at home that most of us can only dream of but one cannot underestimate how hard the lockdown can be for them mentally considering they are used to playing outside for a living on an everyday basis. Hopefully, we manage to flatten the curve and the lockdown can soon be lifted.
