Spurs defender receives international call-up as injury replacement

Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon has been handed a late call-up to the Spanish national side.

The left-back has been called upon by Luis Enrique to take the place of Valencia’s Jose Gaya, after picking up an injury issue during their 4-0 victory against Georgia last night.

Reguilon will now link up with the Spanish squad this morning for training at their Ciudad del Fútbol of Las Rozas base ahead of their final World Cup qualifier of the month, which takes place on Wednesday evening in Kosovo.

Spain currently hold a two-point advantage at the top their qualifying group, ahead of Germany.

Reguilon, who has five senior caps, missed out on selection for Euro 2020 and has not featured for Spain since playing the full 90 minutes of a 1-1 draw against Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League back in November of last year (transfermarkt).

Reguilon started last season brightly, but his performances dipped in line with Tottenham’s poor run of form which began in December.

Thankfully, he has looked like he has rediscovered his confidence in the three opening Premier League matches this season and now has the opportunity to impress Luis Enrique once more.
