Spurs derby day hero believes a title challenge is on

After his superb curling effort against Fulham at Wembley, Lucas Moura has assured fans that Tottenham are more than capable of challenging the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City this season.

Pep Guardiola’s City ran rampant last campaign, finishing a whopping 23 points ahead of Spurs, and even more ahead of Liverpool.

However, few expect the blue moon to rise quite as high this season, as it is set to be a far more competitive League table.

Despite seeing a signingless summer, Spurs’ newest recruit believes that they can push for the title this year.

He told ESPN Brazil: “I believe so. We are a strong team. “In the last two seasons we were always in the first places, qualifying for the Champions League.

“I think the important thing is that nobody left. I think we still have a very strong team, well intertwined, that’s very important, too.

“We have full conditions to fight at the top of the table.”

After putting in his first consistent full game for Spurs since arriving for £25m in January, Moura is desperate to kick on from his derby day success.

“I have to take advantage of the opportunities that show up. It’s my first season from the start here with Tottenham.

“I tried to work hard and strong in the pre-season to get started, and the opportunities are there. I have to take it, it’s a big one I’m having.

“I will work hard, I will do my utmost to be able to help the team, to gain my spot in the team.”

Is Moura right? Can Tottenham challenge for the title?
