Spurs drop out of chase for €25m Spanish midfielder – West Ham in pole position

As early as February of this year, speculation arose that suggested Tottenham were in the hunt to sign Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals.

TEAMTalk had reported that Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester City were lining up to secure the services of Fornals for just €25m million, owing to a release clause in his contract.

However, recent reports are now suggesting that West Ham now lead the chase to sign Fornals.

Although they are yet to make a formal bid, AS have suggested that the East London side are closest to signing Fornals, with the reported cost being the total value of his release clause.

Fornals notched a fair 12 assists for Villarreal in 2017/18 but managed to return only 3 from the same number of games (35) last season.

Spurs Web Opinion

These stats aren’t the only thing to go by regarding Fornals’ ability but they don’t make for great reading if previous links to Spurs were true.

Fornals doesn’t seem to be up to the quality of player we should be looking at. With a release clause of just €25m million, you’d think that someone of note would have snapped him up by now if he was the real deal.

Spurs should be looking to someone with more proven quality than Fornals. What’s more, Spurs should be prepared to pay the money it takes to secure world class players and not settle for less. With that in mind, this news that suggests we are no longer interested in Fornals seems positive.
