Spurs end their interest in Manchester United winger

Tottenham Hotspur have admitted defeat in their interests to sign Anthony Martial from Manchester United, according to The Independent.

Although the 22-year-old was keen on a move to north London, it is believed that Manchester United officials refused to back Jose Mourinho’s wish to sell the player.

A potential deal for Martial looked a possibility with the Red Devils heavily interested in Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.

However, not all of the United officials were keen on allowing the French winger to leave for a direct Premier League rival even as a straight swap for Alderweireld.

This could scrutinise United’s move for Alderweireld with Spurs wither holding out for a swap deal with Martial or a £60m+ lump sum.

Reports suggest United are unwilling to pay a figure that high with the 29-year-old having entered his last year on his contract.

Therefore, if the Red Devils can wait for another year they could land Alderweireld for as little as £25m.

Tottenham fans, we always want to hear your thoughts.

With a move for Martial seemingly off, should Daniel Levy deny any move United make for Alderweireld?
