Spurs fans will love Poch’s response to whether he is aiming to win the Champions League this year

Back in 2018, Liverpool took on Real Madrid in the Champions League final, losing out to a Gareth Bale masterclass off the bench.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s team then battled back the next year and reached the final for the second time, defeating Spurs to finally lift the trophy.

Spurs fans will now be hoping that their side can repeat this impressive achievement by following up a second placed finish with a Champions League title.

Tottenham showed their worth last season by qualifying out of a group with Barcelona, Inter Milan, and PSV, before knocking out Borussia Dortmund, Man City, and Ajax en route to the final.

Spurs also beat Real Madrid the season before, as well as grabbing a point away at the Bernabeu and going toe-to-toe with Juventus over two legs.

Pochettino was asked today whether his aim was to win the Champions League this season, and the Spurs boss was full of confidence about Tottenham’s aim to win everything.

Poch said (Football London): “I think there are a lot of goals for the next season. Always it’s about to win. we are so competitive. We are people who love to compete and win. Always our goal and target is to win. The way we play, the same with the training session and friendly games, always we want to win because we are so competitive. Of course, our next goal for the next season is to, first of all, see how our squad is going to be and then to settle our goals and try to perform in the best way.

“I never work with expectations or the perceptions, I work with the reality. I told you before I think I’m going to be happy with the squad that we are going work with at the end of the transfer window. I am not focused on that, I am very focused in trying to help the team and players to improve and try to perform and get the results that we want.

“In the last five years, the expectation and perception never matched the reality. Why not expect another season in the same way? For sure. We know it is very difficult for people outside the club to see the reality. I think we have massive experience to try to provide a good balance between expectation and perception and reality. But it will not surprise me, another season in completely different sides, the expectation and the reality. We are going to try to be in the middle and hold inside the middle and get a good balance.”
