Spurs fans will love the one thing Vertonghen claims they will not do against City

Tottenham Hotspur will today be preparing for one of the biggest matches in the club’s recent history, as they take on Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Spurs and City come head to head in the quarter finals of the competition, just Tottenham’s second appearance at this stage, having never progressed any further.

However, the Lilywhites have one toe in the semi finals after edging out City in the home leg, winning 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Heung Min Son.

Spurs must now go to the Etihad, the home of the Premier League champions, and somehow get a result to ensure they make history.

A draw or a win would guarantee qualification into the semi finals for Tottenham, while even a loss by a one goal margin would see them go through on away goals.

Jan Vertonghen has now revealed that away goals in exactly what they will be looking for, saying Tottenham will not be looking to play for a clean sheet.

He said (Independent): “We’re not a team that can sit back and play for the clean sheet [against City]. We’ll try to score ourselves. They know they have to go and attack. They have home advantage and know they have to score at least one to beat us. Hopefully that little cushion we have, we can take advantage of it.”
