Kevin Danso eases the Spurs injury crisis

Spurs are still without Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, while Radu Dragusin has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

However, the arrival of Kevin Danso has eased the Spurs defensive crisis a little, with the Austrian bringing plenty of experience and know-how, having tasted Premier League football with Southampton before.

Tottenham reportedly hijacked a deal for the 26-year-old after he had agreed to join Wolves, and it has now been revealed that Postecoglou’s men are pretty pleased to have got the defender through the door.

Jack Pitt-Brooke reveals why Kevin Danso is seen as a perfect fit

The Athletic reporter Jack Pitt-Brooke has now explained that Tottenham were looking for a physically dominant centre-back who is experienced enough to slot straight into the team.

He claimed that Danso is seen as a great fit, with the newcomer perceived to have the required attributes to thrive in Spurs’ high defensive line.

Pitt-Brooke said on The View from the Lane podcast “You know, a few people have said to me that like Danso’s physical profile makes him perfect to play in Tottenham’s high line. I just think, I think in the case of the Danso signing, unlike, for example, Kinsky or even Tel, like it’s kind of about somebody who can plug straight in, really.

“Like Spurs just needed somebody who’s experienced, you know, fit, able, dependable and ready to go. You know, it might well be depending on the other injuries that Danso plays a lot in the second half of this season. But I think clearly it’s just, you know, they need someone who can hit the ground running.”

Tottenham needed to add experience to the squad

Danso is a departure from the kind of signings that Tottenham have made in the Postecoglou era so far, with the club prioritising emerging young talent over readymade players.

However, the signing of the Austrian and the capture of Dominic Solanke last summer shows that the club’s transfer approach is quite flexible, and they are very much aware of the importance of having some experience dotted around the side.
