Spurs favourites for first Twitter ban

Bookie Paddy Power has installed Spurs as the 4/1 favourite to be the first Premier League club to ban their players from using Twitter following Darren Bent’s rant at club chairman Daniel Levy.

With Football finding a new way of putting its foot in its mouth this week and cricket’s Phil Hughes disclosing his exclusion from the Australian cricket team before an official announcement, it could only be a matter of time before sports teams reign in their errant players.

Not surprisingly after the verbal volley chairman Daniel Levy received from Bent, Spurs lead the way in the betting with Hull and Stoke – who were also in Bent’s firing line – following at 6/1 and 8/1, respectively. Also in the reckoning are clubs with renowned disciplinarians at the helm with Sir Alex Ferguson 9/1 to ban the Manchester United players and Gary Megson and Sam Allardyce both 10/1 to ban their players at Bolton and Blackburn Rovers.

Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: “Footballers don’t have a reputation for being the most intelligent so Twitter is perhaps quite appropriately named. Clubs may need to step in to make them see sense so the betting question is which club will be the first to enforce the old mantra ‘what goes on in the dressing room, stays in the dressing room’?”
